A Grade 5 and a Grade 8 bolt can look almost identical in a bin, yet they are not interchangeable by default. Grade is a mechanical-property designation, not a general label for “good,” and the right decision starts with the assembly. Higher grade does not excuse damaged threads, an oversized hole, a distorted bracket or missing hardware. It also does not solve a joint that repeatedly loosens because of movement, incorrect torque or poor joint design. Fix the condition causing the problem, then install the specified fastener with the correct mating hardware and procedure.
